Split System Air Conditioning Installation Tips

Most homeowners prefer to hire a professional air conditioning contractor  to install an air conditioner. But if you have a little experience in electrical work and plumbing, you can easily install a split system air conditioner and save money in the process. This article provides information on important tips to install a ductless mini split system air conditioner in your home.

The first step is to install the indoor unit of the split system air conditioner. You should select an unobstructed area on the interior wall to mount this unit. Avoid places where direct sunlight, heat sources, oil spills, gas, and other hazardous materials are stored. You need to leave at least six inches of open space surrounding the top and sides of the unit. Make sure the unit is mounted at least seven feet above the ground level. The unit should be installed three feet away from any power and antenna lines. A metal or wood frame can provide additional support for the unit.

The second step is to secure the mounting plate to the interior wall. You should drill a hole in the wall ti install the piping. The length of the pipe and the distance it needs to travel is important when drilling the hole. The hole needs to be at least 3″ in diameter and sloped downward in the direction of the exterior for effective drainage. Place a flexible flange in the hole. The next step is to connect the pipes. Minimize bending of the pipes to make sure the unit works well. Join the drainage pipe to the base of the indoor unit. Now secure the indoor unit by pressing the unit against the mounting plate.

The next step is to secure the outdoor condenser. The unit should be installed away from dusty, hot, and heavily trafficked areas. It needs at least twelve inches of space surrounding the perimeter for effective functioning. Place the concrete pad on the floor in order to make sure the ground is level. The pad needs to be high enough for the condenser to sit above the level of winter snow. Place a rubber cushion, called a vibration pad between the unit and the pad to minimize vibration. There should be no TV or radio antenna within 10 feet of the outdoor unit. Remove the cover of the condenser and connect the cables according to the wiring diagram of the unit. Make sure to fasten the cables with cable clamps and secure the cover. These are some of the most important tips that you need to follow when installing a split system air conditioner unit in your home.

On the other hand, if you don’t have any experience in plumbing and electric work, you should not attempt to install the unit. It is best that you consult a professional air conditioning installation company in the area under such circumstances. With a host of air conditioning installation services in your area, you should be cautious when choosing the right company.
